Animal Resources Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center at Dallas

Job Description
 Work under limited supervision to provide technical assistance to
veterinary medical or research staff in delivering veterinary care to
laboratory animals.
The technician must be able to perform the following duties:
1.  Administer and monitor general anesthesia to various animal
species
3.  Perform physical examinations under the general supervision of
Animal Resource Center (ARC) veterinarians
4. Maintain animal health and study related records
5. Assist with major surgical procedures.
6. Perform routine diagnostic testing utilizing common laboratory
equipment.
7.  Work comfortably in barrier and containment facilities.
8. Obtain routine blood collections from research animals and
administer medications to research animals.
9. Provide guidance and training to animal care staff and investigators
in proper animal handling and restraint, behavior, anatomy, blood and
tissue collection, surgical techniques, and dosing methods.

Experience and Education Requirements
High School diploma, or equivalent, and four (4) yrs experience as a
veterinary technician in a clinical or research setting.   Preference
will be given to registered veterinary technicians (RVT or CVT),
LATcertified, or those who have received an associate’s degree in a
lab animal science or related field.

Our hours are Monday through Friday: 7:30 to 6:00 and Sat. 8:00 to 12:00.
