OSU-OKC Vet Tech Student Named Scholarship Recipient

OSU-Oklahoma City veterinary technician student Chelsea Young was recently named the recipient of an Oklahoma Veterinary Technician Association scholarship. To be qualified for the scholarship, Young submitted an essay detailing her career aspirations.

“I was excited when I found out I had been awarded the OVTA scholarship,” Young said. “I’m always up for a challenge and enjoy writing. The scholarship will assist in furthering my education for either purchasing books for reference and research purposes, or funding an upcoming conference trip.”

Young has attended OSU-OKC since fall 2008. She says she chose the university after touring the Agriculture Resource Center with Registered Veterinary Technician Dana Call. “She was so helpful in showing me around the facility, explaining classes and the many opportunities that lay before me upon graduation.”

Young says her passion for animals is what drew her to the veterinary field. She envisions “diving into the latest of feline medicine and working in cat clinic.

“I have always had a passion for animals and their well-being,” Young said. “Animals bring so much love and happiness into my life. I love this profession because I am able to help and care for animals; for me there is nothing more rewarding than that.”

After graduating OSU-OKC, Young plans to take state and national board exams and work in a feline clinic. She also aspires to write articles for veterinary technician magazines while incorporating her photography skills.

“I would like to thank my teachers and staff for all their hard work and encouragement toward me and fellow classmates,” Young said.
